The new Happy Madison movie, ‘Strange Wilderness’ is out starring Peter Gaulke and Fred Wolf CORRECTION: IMDB was incorrect on 2/5/08, this movie is actually starring Steve Zahn and Allen Covert, a Happy Madison movie, produced by Adam Sandler.

Zach says: (out of 4) 1.3.

The idea for this movie (a wild life reality show comedy) could’ve been funny. They failed to capitalize on this, and severely missed the boat. I did not enjoy this movie at all, aside from a few funny one-liners.

    Bol says: .5

The word strange is appropriate for this film because thats all that it is. In its own strange way its good, but thats only if you have the mind of a sophomore. With this production group and cast I thought that this would have been a better film, but sadly my expectations were not met and the move fell very short. Overall if you have some compelling desire to see this, punch yourself in the face and just watch the free trailer on apple.com because a majority of the funny scenes are there.

    Super Bowl Reaction and Ads:

Well, all three of us, Zach, Bol, and our guest Mark were taken by surprise (to say the least) when the Giants defeated the Patriots. There is nothing more to be said.

    Favorite Ads:

Zach’s favorite was the Coke-a-Cola “Jinx” with Bill Frist and James Carville.

Bol’s favorite was the Doritos Mouse.

  • Free Speech in a “politically correct” obsessed America, part 1

    Podcasts, Politics No Comments

In Indiana, a small town called Muncie, home of Ball State University, had it’s first city council meeting of the year on January 7th, 2008. Newly elected members didn’t expect it to end with a fight.

Cary Malchow of Muncie, decided to use his First Amendment right of free speech, and speak before the council. He prepared a speech asking the council to look into alleged voter fraud concerning council member Monte Murphy. Malchow practiced his speech and timed it over and over to be sure he would meet the three minute time limit that the council allows residents to speak for. He delivered his speech in an eloquent, calm, collected manner. However, due to the subject matter, he was cut off in the middle of his speech by Sam Marshall the council President.

Malchow continued speaking, knowing he had the right to speak before the council for up to three minutes. Marshall again cut Malchow off asking him to step down and cease speaking. Malchow continued. Marshall then asked the police officer on duty to remove Malchow and “escort him out”.

The officer refused to remove Malchow, as he was not breaking any law or acting in an inappropriate manner. Upon this, the rest of the citizens present at the meeting began chanting “Let him speak!” Finally, the council abruptly adjourned the meeting in an unorthodox fashion.

Unfortunately for the council, their misconduct went public by way of the internet, through perhaps the largest media outlet possible, You Tube. Mr. Dana Reif shot the entire incident on a video camera and posted it immediately. The city council has given no response on the issue, other than the generic “No comment.” It seems Malchow’s right to free speech was violated without question.

Watch the entire video below and decide for yourself.

    The Bucket List

    Zach’s rating (out of a possible 4): 2.6

The Bucket List is led by two great actors, Jack Nicholson, and Morgan Freeman. And they pretty much carry the film. This plot would not have worked without the chemistry between Nicholson and Freeman. It was a tough story to pull off but they did it right. One scene you will be laughing, the next crying, and thats hard to do. Definitely a “roller coaster of emotions” movie, that leaves you feeling good. I would recommend this flick for the more mature viewer, only because it is so deep.

    Bol’s rating (out of a possible 4): 3.25

The acting and chemistry between the leads is what really gives this move its punch. It gracefully transitions between the highs and lows of life that we know all too well. Nicholson and Freeman make you laugh and cry and and in some instances both at the same time. The Bucket list touches on some of the philosophies concerning death and does so with class. Overall and good film and one worth the $6.50 that I paid to see it.

    Superbowl Picks:

Zach’s pick: New England Patriots 24, NY Giants 21

Although I would love to see the Giants beat the cocky, and immature Patriots in Superbowl 42, it is un-realistic. Because of this I pick the Patriots by 3 points. I’m a Bears fan though so I will be watching to see Tom Petty at halftime. ;-)

    Bol’s Pick:

Warning: as a Colts fan I abhor the Patriots with every fiber of my being. That being said I think that they will unfortunately pull out the victory.  Despite the recent performance by the Giants and supposed injuries (mainly Tom Brady’s ankle)  I officially pick the Pats by a touch down or field goal.
