Obama is the emptiest vessel in our country.

Politics 2 Comments

No television network should play more than thirty seconds of a Barack Obama speech, because they are all the same. No educated American should vote for Barack Obama.

I have been willing, for the entire primary season, to give Barack Obama a free pass and put up with his empty speeches. Thinking maybe it’s because he is inexperienced or maybe because he is human, and we all make mistakes. I was willing to do this until he plagiarized a speech using (almost word for word) Governor Deval Patrick’s statements.

This was the last straw. I started out as an Obama supporter, but I have gone full circle and now support Hilary Clinton. Until Barack Obama, comes out with something to say other than “America deserves a change” and provides a plan on how to change or the benefits of it, I will not be able to support him. And if you consider yourself an educated American voter, then be just that, and learn that Barack Obama, is charismatic, yes, he is eloquent, yes, he is articulate, yes. But he is not fit to be commander-in-chief because he refuses to elaborate on any of the issues he briefly mentions in his inspirational speeches.

Today three more states total, are up for grabs in the 2008 presidential primary.

For the republicans, Wisconsin, and 19 of Washington (state’s) delegates.

For the democrats Wisconsin, and Hawaii.

Wisconsin holds 74 delegates for the democrats. Neither Barack Obama nor Hilary Clinton are campaigning there today, instead Clinton is putting all her eggs in Texas’ and Ohio’s basket. Other than Pennsylvania and North Carolina, Texas and Ohio are the last two big states, and must wins for Hilary Clinton. Hawaii has 20 delegates for the democrats.

On the republican side, Wisconsin has 40 delegates at stake in a non-winner-take-all primary. Washington state had a caucus two weeks ago, with 40 delegates total, 21 are chosen at the caucus (Feb. 9th), however only 18 were chosen leaving 3 uncommitted. The remaining 19 of Washington’s delegates are chosen in todays primary.

According to the associated press, Mike Huckabee recently left the country for the Cayman Islands to give a paid speech. This is unusual for a presidential candidate, however, Huckabee sure could use the cash.

  • Best Double Cheeseburger? McDonald’s, Wendy’s, or Burger King

    Politics No Comments

It has been reported that Burger King is following suit with it’s competitors. Burger King, the second largest fast food burger chain, is testing their double cheeseburger out on the dollar menu. In certain undisclosed locations the double cheeseburger has been added to the Burger King dollar menu in hopes of increasing sales.

    The Burger King

Burger King’s top competitors, Wendy’s and McDonald’s already have a double cheeseburger on their value menus. McDonald’s double cheeseburger has been available on their dollar menu since 2003, while Wendy’s just recently added the “Stack Attack” to the menu in December of 2007.

However, it isn’t just burger chains. Taco Bell is offering their Gordita Supreme at .99 cents for the entire month of February. The Gordita Supreme usually sells for over $1.50. Quizno’s sub sandwich chain jumped on the value bandwagon as well. They introduced the “Sammies”, a low calorie flat bread sandwich, in November of 2007. They are $2 a piece. Quizno’s notes that although their “Sammies” are $2, they are a healthy low-cost alternative to fast food chains who typically do not have healthy options on the value menu.

I think Wendy’s has the best double cheeseburger right now, although Burger King’s is larger. Despite the low cost of the value menu food, consumers can arguably expect to see a significant decrease in food quality. After all, how do you think they can sell it for only a dollar?

  • The difference between a politician and a statesman

    Politics 5 Comments

Most people believe there is just one type of elected public servant, a “Politician.” But contrary to popular belief, there are two kinds. Politicians and Statesmen, referring to the character of the public servant. In many respects they are one in the same, but there is a very significant difference that cannot go overlooked:

Politician - A politician, (the more common term used to describe public servants Empty Suit (courtesy of elfwood.com)such as the President, Congressmen, State representatives, governors, etc) is a public servant elected by a people. The politician listens to both sides of an argument, and makes his or her decision based on the number of people the decision will upset. Thus, saving face with as many voters as possible.

Hilary Clinton, is seeming more and more like a politician since recently she pandered to the people in Ohio, telling them she will take on the oil and credit card companies, and other large businesses. This goes against what she said in the beginning of her campaign, does she stand for what she believes? Or for what hr voters want to hear?

    -Article continues below-

Statesman - A statesman is much more rare, in all governments. A statesman is also an elected public servant. The statesman will hear both sides of an argument. After doing so he or she will make their decision based on what they believe is right. Doing this no matter how many constituents or colleagues he or she upsets. The statesman takes the high road, the road less traveled.

John McCain is proving in this election that he is a statesman. Many hard right conservatives (talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh especially) have taken shots at McCain saying he isn’t conservative enough. McCain’s ability to stand proud of his voting record (Liberal, Conservative, or otherwise) and not flip flop just because he is running for president, proves he is a statesman. He proves that when he makes a decision, he truly believes it.Liberty

A statesman is obviously the type of public representative the American people should try to elect, whether to a state or local office, or even a national one. The statesman will still have the best interest of you (the people) at heart, but has a level of character beyond that of a mere politician in a suit.

When going to the polls, elect the statesman.
